First port of call for your ancestor research should be living relatives. I visited a cousin I hadn't seen for 50 years and she gave me a list in the back of a family bible. This list led me to Shipton-under-Wychwood and the Oxfordshire Rootsweb Research List. I managed to trace my paternal BROOKS line back to my gggrandfather Henry DASHWOOD BROOKES the illegitimate son of Harriott BROOKES and it would seem that his father was likely to have been either Sir George or Sir Henry DASHWOOD of Kirtlington Hall, Oxfordshire.
