In 1950 we moved to the new houses on the Northfields Estate, after a long wait my parents had the keys to 4 Witham Close.We moved in November,the footpaths were unmade and building continued around us so it was a muddy first winter but we had a bathroom,hot water,electricity,more space,front and back gardens,it was very exciting. We made new friends as houses became occupied and still attended the same schools walking to St.George's or for my brothers St.Martin's. A community of good neighbours soon grew as Lindsey Rd.,Holland Road,Kesteven Road,Drift Rd and Lincoln Rd developed. Families in Witham Close from then were Primett ,Boyle, Wheeler,Haddon,Matthews,Scotney,Mulley,Green,Marvel,Pullen,Walker,Glassfield,Warrington,Wade,Hicks,Elmer,Groome,Brookbank. The family home in Witham Close holds many happy memories, THE CLOSE was a hub of play,friends,neighbours,caring for each other.
