Does anyone else remember a Stamford character from the immediate post-war years called Friday Dorman?
I believe he had a shop in the town but can't remember what he sold. Was he a barber?
I seem to recall his shop was in All Saints' Street between the Jockey Club Cafe and Bassendine's passage. (Harrison and Dunn now occupy the site that was BASSENDINES.
I know I was fascinated by his name; I had never known anyone called Friday before
But there were some lovely characters in the town in those days. They all seemed have names that fitted their personality or occupation.
Levi Downs was a local bookie and Alfie Dexter (Colin Dexter's dad) had a garage and taxi firm. And the saniltary inspector was a Mr Rolls. I think they called him "Toilet" Rolls.
