This photo was held by my grandmother and then my mother.
I know it will contain many Stamfordians who joined the Fourth Lincs.
Sadly many never came home, Percy Oldham on the left of the ringed
head that of grandad who was Arthur Baxter. Percy is commemorated
on the Stamford War Memorial in Broad Street.
Kate: Thanks for re-posting that Richard.

I do remember the name but cannot see a face. Do you have any connections with the Lincolnshire Regiment. I also have diaries and some postcards sent from France.I shall try to
Send them to the site if I am able.
Bit difficult to read I'm afraid, but better if you go on "Slidshow" when viewing.
Might try again later to enhance them. Thanks Richard.

In the back of the above diaries I found a small French phrase book
which must have been issued to the soldiers for their use in France. It is quite small roughly 6cms by 4cms. It was tucked in the diary and was also returned to his mother Mrs Oldham with his belongings. If Kate will be able to post the picture it may be of interest to gateway followers.
Kate:I will have a go at loading it later Richard.

Hi Richard I believe the photo 1st-4th- Lincolns may well be of all Stamford/ surrounding area lads? Do you know where the photo was taken? I just wonder if it may have been taken in Barn Hill Stamford? As the house in the background looks rather like the Old Barn Hill Clinic?

I think you could be correct with the house on Barn Hill.
I am sending a photo to Kate in the hope that she will be able to post it on this site. They are momentoes collected by Percy Oldham and sent back with his possessions from France

I believe my grandfather must have been in this regiment, although I understand he was originally from Peterborough.
In these two photos, I can see the same gentleman - in yr large group photo (seated far left) I think my grandfather vic matthews must have been amongst and part of them, he served in France (passendale) and lost many friends there.
