My Mum used to tell me that when her and Dad got married the houses along Casterton Road were for sale at £400. She always wished they had been able to afford one. I think she would have liked to have set up home in one. When she told me in about 1950 that price seemed completely ridiculous. It seems completely unbelievable now in 2005.
Ed: Yes, its always nice to think they should have bought a row of houses at that price, but their wages were so low, proportionately they could not have afforded the £400. Also usually there was usually only one half of the couple earning.
