Ron Good used to run a newsagents and sweet shop in Scotgate Stamford. Old Mrs Good (his mother) used to be in there serving too. We used to call in the shop on the way home from school to buy some sweets or a comic. Ron was a very cheerful man and always had a joke with everyone.

Ron Good was my uncle. I used to do a paperound their when I was 14. He was a loverly man.

I remember Ron well, always genial and joking. He (or his paper boy/ girl) delivered my parents papers for many years. I remember his original shop had a very low boarded ceiling. It was demolished when West Street corner was widened. He then moved further down Scotgate towards town and I think his last shop was the sweet shop once owned by the Misses Holmes and then by the late Billy Butler and his wife.

I did a paper round for Ron Good, his father delivered our papers for many years, when he became too ill to work Ron gave me his round. When I first started I collected my papers from the original shop and was still with Ron when he moved to the 'new shop'. Ron was always cheerful even very early in the morning.

I would just like to echo the words and thoughts of everyone else by saying what a lovely man Ron was. I would often call in at the shop on a saturday morning for my newspaper and was always greeted with the same warm, friendly smile. I remember him being popular with the ladies and many would give him a smile and a wave as they passed the shop window on their way to work or to do their shopping. I can also recall him being a very keen fisherman and being a member of one of Stamford's angling clubs.
Ron passed away in 1988 aged just 68.

I too remember Ron and if I am right Marion Tomlins worked for Ron on a Saturday. I know Marion still lives in Stamford so if someone sees her try and get an update

Hi Betty, My wife Pamela also worked for Ron Good in the early 50s as a paper girl. I also spent a lot of time with Ron fishing he also used to go fishing with Jack Bone and Alf Frear. Fond memories of the good old days.

I remember a group of us crowding into Ron Good's shop before and sometimes after school on the way to All Saints School late 1950's. I loved going in there it was a half way place for me that I enjoyed especially in the winter to thaw out a bit walking between Worcester Crescent and school.
