Do you remember The Spa up the meadows when it was still working?
The Spa is the small cupola shaped construction in the fourth meadow between Stamford and Tinwell. It is located on the riverbank between the iron bridge and the weir (waterfall) near the pumping station.
When I was a child, a constant stream of fresh pure spring iron water would trickle out of the spa and walkers hiking between Stamford and Tinwell (or Stamford and Easton) would often stop for a thirst-quenching drink.
I think there is an inscription on the Spa. It may be something to do with a former 19th Century Mayor Councillor Paradise (or was it Paradine?) whose name is inscribed on the Albert Bridge and other things in the town.
People often had their photos taken at the Spa and the taste of the water was out of this world.
Unfortunately the course of the spring water was destroyed during the development of the pumping station and the spa was buried under mud for several years. Eventually pupils from Stamford School dug it out but the actually spring was no more.

You are right about the name. John Paradise was ,Mayor in 1864 and again in 1881.
