In the Mercury Memories page this week, 150 years ago, Spencer's-Terrace was described as "The most disreputable locality on Stamford is a double row of buildings, intersected by a narrow passage, called Spencer's-Terrace, North Street, judging from the disturbances which take place there and in the immediate neighbourhood, it has arrived at the lowest depth of degredation".
It goes on, in the same vein, and it got me wondering where abouts in North Street it was, and if it is still there, I may drop in!
If you missed it , it is an interesting read in the Mercury 3rd of October edition.

150 years ago, the street known as North Street included what is now known as East Street and West Street. The division into 3 didn't occur until 1868. There was a large scale demolition of inferior houses and cottages in North and West Street in the 1880s. So it may be difficult to locate.
