Does anyone else remember the magician/children's entertainer who used to perform shows in the Tin Hut (All Saints' Church Rooms) in Foundry Road during the late 1940s and early 1950s?
His shows were always on a weekday starting after school hours at about 4.30pm and lasted about an hour.
He used to come every year and charged an old sixpence which was collected on the door.
It was the only chance young Stamford kids got to see a conjurer and we used to love his shows.
On reflection, he probably did the same act every time he came but we thought it was wonderful.
He used to come at least once a year and news that he was due to appear spread by word of mouth.
His shows were always well attended But I don't know his name or where he came from. Can anyone else fill the gaps in my knowledge?
