Hi John a little late perhaps as your posting was made in 2008. Do you know where your family originated from? Was it Kings Cliffe? I ask this as my Mother was a Scotney and came from Kings Cliffe. I have researched this Scotney family and may be able to help you. There was also a family of Scotney's in Stamford who were in the antique trade could that perhaps be your family? So sorry for this very late response.

I am sure you have sorted this by now but I just came across the Guilder, Furnishings and Antique Scotneys in the 1911 census (the family was still in Stamford in the 1950s). Anyway, in case you haven't got: 1911 census (7/ 19419) 2 St Mary's Hill Stamford (just as you turn the corner from Wharf Road I guess?): James Woodcock Scotney (abt 1875); Elizabeth (spouse) (abt 1875) and Alfred James Woodcock Scotney (abt 1908).
