The hedgerows are full of Rosehips this year and I wondered how many of you on the Forum can remember picking the hips for money back in the forties and taking them to the YMCA and Johnsons Chemist to be made into Rosehip Syrup.

I remember it well Betty, we used to go down Green Lane, the girls collected the hips and can you remember, the boys splitting the hips and pushing them down the backs of shirts and blouses and they itched like mad.

Yes Syd I do remember the itching stuff in the middle.  My friend Dorothy \baker has recently collected some hips in Stamford and made her own Syrup.  I asked her about ther itchy seeds in the middle and she said you had to take those out and the making of the syrup involved a lot of sieving.

When we look at the hips along the hedgerows here in Wales I tell my daughter and grand-daughter about the itchy stuff inside them.
